Ijen Crater
If you like volcanoes, you should visit Ijen Crater, it's so beautiful I went there twice — in a sequence weekend. I started the trip from Malang, by land at 11pm. Yes, we go so late because of the trip from Malang to Ijen took about 7 hours. Actually, it only about 250km from Malang, from Malang to Bondowoso only took about 4 hours.
After Bondowoso, we continued our trip to Sukosari, from here the road goes from smooth to hell. It took about 2 hours from Bondowoso to Ijen camp at Paltuding — sorry, not on the maps, because the position at google maps point it wrong. Before paltuding, We pass PTP. Its a plantation owned by PTPN Indonesia, the road is smooth. Arrive at paltuding at 6am, we've prepared for a 3.2km hiking to the crater.
Just watch out, the road to crater is slippery, lots of sands, so you should use a hiking shoes.
Occasionally you came across sulfur miner. These guys are tough, walk up and down about 4-5 times a day, carrying sulfur from the Ijen Crater. Ijen Crater is also a sulfur mining place.
Take a break after 300 or 400 meters walk to catch breath. And after about 1.5 hour walk, you will find yourselves at Ijen Crater.
